A 24-year-old Massachusetts man doused himself with gasoline at the gas station where he works in Newbury on Saturday afternoon, says The Essex District Attorney’s office.
A police officer suffered non life-threatening injuries from attempting to put out the fire with an extinguisher. The man on fire ran away, and the officer tackled him to the ground and was able to extinguish out the flames.
The man was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital, and then airlifted to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The burning is being held under investigation.
