Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed an abortion ban into law on Wednesday. This ban makes the states most restrictive law. The new law comes just one day after 25 male Republicans in the Alabama Senate voted to ban abortion at all stages of pregnancy pregnancy and long as the mother’s physical or mental health is not in trouble.
Following through with an abuortion in the state of Alabama is considered a Class A felony and would carry a sentence of life or 10 to 99 years in prison. The bill is strict, not even allowing a woman who has been raped a choice to get an abortion. People are fighting for their abortion rights. However, if nothing changes the law will go into effect starting November.
This comes just a week after Georgia passed the “fetal heartbeat” bill.
