According to police, a male student has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting at Noblesville West Middle School in Indiana Friday.

Police received a call of an active shooter at the school at about 9:06 a.m. ET.

It was confirmed a teacher who’s name is Jason Seaman, a science teacher at Noblesville for four years and a teenager  are both being treated at Methodist for their injuries. Parents say Seaman intervened to stop the shooter.

Sergeant John Perrine said the families of the victims have been notified and the “students were being taken to Noblesville High School” telling parents to pick up their children there.

Police said they are also investigating a threat  at Noblesville High School.

We have no reason to believe there is any kind of a threat connected to this incident anywhere else,” Jowitt said. “We’re also, however, aware of a secondary threat that’s been made at Noblesville High School. We have multiple officers and a command post established at Noblesville High School and are diligently ensuring the safety of students and staff there. We have not received any information that this has been anything other than a communicated threat and again we are securing Noblesville High School and taking steps to ensure that it stays secure.”

Erica Higgins was among the frightened parents who rushed to get their kids and told WTHR-TV that she learned of the shooting from a relative who called her at home.

I just want to get my arms around my boy,” she said.

Chris Navarro an eighth grader from the school said he counted 16 gunshots about a minute before the bell rang.

“The speaker came on and said we were on lockdown and people rushed in and we went to the back of the room. I went into this little room in the back with three other people.”

Jayden Williams was in the locker room changing out of his gym clothes when an announcement came over the middle school’s speaker system.

“It’s not a drill. Shots have been fired by the seventh-grade hallway.”

Vice President Mike Pence released a statement “To everyone in the Noblesville community – you are on our hearts and in our prayers. Thanks for the swift response by Hoosier law enforcement and first responders.”
