Cleveland Radio Station Bans “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” For Good

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” has been played around Christmas time for decades now — the catchy tune that originally in the 1949 film ‘Neptune’s Daughter’ has since become one of the top beloved Christmas songs with big names like Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel singing it in the popular movie Elf as as well as the famous duets from Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel, and Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart.

However, in the recent years, the song has many feeling uncomfortable with the lyrics that are claiming it to be suggesting at date rape. Because of the many complaints one radio station in Cleveland has decided to pull the song for good. WDOK Christmas 102.1 pulled the song from its 24-hour Christmas rotation, explaining that complaints led them to remove it, according to local Fox 8 news.

The song that plays a lot during the holiday season got yanked from WDOK after receiving a call from a listener who suggesting that it was inappropriate in 2018. The song in question is about a woman attempting to leave while a man is fighting to lure her to stay with him.

“I really can’t stay,” to which the man responds, “but baby, it’s cold outside.”

The woman can then be heard singing, “say, what’s in this drink?” and “I simply must go… the answer is no.”

The radio station put out a poll to see if many people agreed to yank the song from the station before making the decision to ban it. “People might say, ‘Oh, enough with that #MeToo,’ but if you really put that aside and listen to the lyrics, it’s not something I would want my daughter to be in that kind of a situation,” radio host Desiray told Cleveland’s Fox 8. “The tune might be catchy, but let’s maybe not promote that sort of an idea.”

How do you feel about the song Baby It’s Cold Outside? Read the full lyrics below:

I really can’t stay (but baby, it’s cold outside)
I’ve got to go away (but baby, it’s cold outside)
This evening has been (been hoping that you’d drop in)
So very nice (i’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice)
My mother will start to worry (beautiful what’s your hurry?)
My father will be pacing the floor (listen to the fireplace roar)
So really I’d better scurry (beautiful please don’t hurry)
But maybe just a half a drink more (put some records on while I pour)
The neighbors might think (baby, it’s bad out there)
Say what’s in this drink? (no cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how (your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell (i’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell)
I ought to say, no, no, no sir (mind if I move in closer?)
At least I’m gonna say that I tried (what’s the sense in hurtin’ my pride?)
I really can’t stay (oh baby don’t hold out)
But baby, it’s cold outside
I simply must go (but baby, it’s cold outside)
The answer is no (but baby, it’s cold outside)
Your welcome has been(how lucky that you dropped in)
So nice and warm (look out the window at this dawn)
My sister will be suspicious (gosh your lips look delicious)
My brother will be there at the door (waves upon the tropical shore)
My maiden aunts mind is vicious (gosh your lips are delicious)
But maybe just a cigarette more (never such a blizzard before)
I’ve gotta get home(but baby, you’d freeze out there)
Say lend me a coat(it’s up to your knees out there)
You’ve really been grand (i thrill when you touch my hand)
But don’t you see? (how can you do this thing to me?)
There’s bound to be talk tomorrow (think of my lifelong sorrow)
At least there will be plenty implied (if you got pnuemonia and died)
I really can’t stay (get over that old out)
Baby, it’s cold
Baby, it’s cold outside
