Disney is working on making a live-action reboot of the 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch, which follows the story of a young Hawaiian girl who adopts a small ugly “dog,” whom she names Stitch, who happens to actually be an alien.
The writer behind the scrip will reportedly be Mike Van Waes, and will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich who are currently working on a live-action remake of ‘Aladdin’.
Fans have mixed emotions about seeing Lilo & Stitch in live-action, with some being thrilled, while others think it’s a bad idea. However, it totally makes sense for Disney to give the live-action film a try. According to Forbes, when “Lilo and Stitch” first hit theaters in the summer of 2002, it earned $273 million worldwide, making it one of Disney’s most successful animated films of the 2000’s.
Disney has had many successful live-action remakes, such as Beauty and the Beast, as well as Cinderella. The film production company is currently turning ‘Aladdin’, ‘Dumbo’, and ‘The Lion King’ to live-action remakes.
No date has been given on the Lilo & Stitch live-action movie release.
