Eric Spoelstra Misses First Game For His Child’s Birth

Miami coach, Erik Spoelstra had to miss his first NBA game ever on Sunday for the birth of his child. The Head coach left Indianapolis the moment he got word that his wife Nikki was going in to labor. Assistant coach, Dan Craig took Spoelstra’s spot for Miami’s game at Indiana.

This is Spoelstra’s first game missed out of his entire 15 season career with the Heat — coaching 908 Heat games, 795 regular season and 113 more in the playoffs. Since 2008 he has only missed 5.6 seconds of game time when he got ejected in a game at the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2012.

The couple, who were married in 2016, made the announcement last year that they were expecting a son together.

Spoelstra is expected to coach the next Heat game against Cleveland on Tuesday night.
