After working to get 63-year-old Alice Johnson, a first-time nonviolent drug offender who served 21 years in prison released from from her sentence, Kim Kardashian is back to help free another felon. The KUWTK star appeared on the podcast “Wrongful Conviction” in an episode released Wednesday, where she shared that she is working on the case of Chris Young.
“Yesterday, I had a call with a gentleman that’s in prison for a drug case — got life. It’s so unfair. He’s 30 years old; he’s been in for almost 10 years,” Kardashian revealed during the podcast episode.
Kardashian says that Young was sentenced to life without parole – for possession of marijuana and half a gram of cocaine – due to mandatory-sentencing regulations. Kim says she had spoken with former Tennessee Judge Kevin Sharp, who resigned because the law forced him to give out an unfair sentence.
“I was on the phone with the judge that sentenced him to life,” said the reality star, “who resigned because he had never been on the side of having to do something so unfair, and now he is fighting (alongside) us to get (Young) out.”
Back in June, Kardashian was able to convince the president to pardon Alice Johnson, who was convicted in 1996 of conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine and spent a third of her life in prison — even though her only role in a drug deal was answering phones.
