LeBron James labels himself ‘G.O.A.T.’ on NBA 2k19

Makers of NBA 2k video game have decided to let LeBron James grace the cover of the new 2k19 game. On Tuesday “2k19” was revealed.

James is shown up close and is notably not sporting his Cavs jersey, this creates speculation that he’s no longer considering playing for Cleveland in his next season. On the cover you can see words surrounding him with phrases such as “G.O.A.T” meaning “Greatest Of All Time”.

The phrase “G.O.A.T.” by NBA fans is usually about non other than Michael Jordan, it would appear that LeBron James has other thoughts. LeBron James is currently playing the Warriors in the NBA finals and appears to be on the losing end.

If Cavs lose to the Warriors in this current NBA Finals that will set LeBron James championship run to 3-6 making it to the NBA Finals 9 times. Michael Jordan has made it to the NBA Finals 6 times but has not failed to win the championship when making it to the NBA Finals making his run 6-0.

“LeBron’s carefully crafted wording on the NBA 2K19 20th Anniversary Edition cover encapsulate the passion and drive that have elevated him to all-time greatness making him the perfect cover star,” said marketing executive Alfie Brody.

“We were able to do something really unique for the cover that represents everything that drives me and inspires me — from my family to where I come from and words I live by,” said James, whose edition hits the market in September. “I’m honored my journey can be part of this special time in 2K history and I’m excited for fans to see it.”

This will make the second time LeBron James has been on the 2k series cover, he made the cover back in 2k14 where he can be seen sporting a Miami Heat jersey.

James has an clause in his contract that allows him to opt out and gain a new contract from a new team which seems very possible, rumors have circulated that his most likely destination will be the Houston Rockets.

Rachel Nichols from ESPN asked if his strained relationship with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert would play a factor in his free-agency, James replied “We’ll See” which doesn’t help the chances of him returning. Not to mention LeBron James set a mission to bring a title to Cleveland Cavilers and delivered on his promise.

With a under performing supporting cast that hasn’t impressed any NBA fan, it would seem likely that James will take his talents to another team that’s more equipped to compete with the star studded Warriors.

This leads to 2k makers deciding not to place a jersey on James and only go with his face. Ironically enough this has happened in a lot of 2k covers with Kevin Durant in 2015 moving from the Thunder to the Warriors, Paul George (2K17) and Kyrie Irving (2K18) also changed teams soon after being featured.

The cover is more focused on labeling LeBron James as the GOAT, the quote not only is on the cover but also a promotional video for NBA 2k19.
