Multiple sources have confirmed LeBron James has officially opted out of next years contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers declining a player option that would of payed him $35.6 million. He’s now cleared the way for his departure for the second time and currently has a team working hard to file the paperwork before the 11:59 pm deadline.
Free agency begins at 12:01 am on Sunday, The Cavs are still considered a team that is going to attempt to sign James rumors have mentioned the Lakers & 76ers being at the top of the list for pursuers.
If LeBron is after money he will most likely re-sign with the Cavs who can give him $205 million for 5 years, that would make his contract the largest NBA contract in history.
This would be compared to $152 million for 4 years which is what other teams could offer him according to ESPN.
James has mentioned multiple times that focusing on winning championships comes with a lot of pressure. “Sad to say, but every player doesn’t want to compete for a championship and be in a position where every possession is pressure,” said James, the day prior to Golden State Warriors sweeping the Cavs.
There are a lot of reports mentioning that LeBron could be torn between Cleveland and Los Angeles, he currently has two homes in California.
