After three seasons, Marvel’s Daredevil is the latest show to be canceled by Netflix. Daredevil follows the cancellation of Iron Fist and Luke Cage, both which ended after only two seasons.
Netflix released a statement on Thursday that said, “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself.”
This now leaves two active shows running from Marvel on the streaming service– Jessica Jones, which has been renewed for a third season, and The Punisher, which will return for it’s second season in early 2019.
This seems to be an obvious move for Marvel to completely remove themselves from the streaming service altogether given that Disney, who is the corporate parent to Marvel, is planning to start their own streaming service in the near future. It has even been reported that Tom Hiddleston has signed on with Disney for a stand-alone Loki series.
