Mass Shooting At California Bar Leaves 12 Dead

13 left dead after a mass shooting broke out at a country music bar in Thousand Oaks,California around 11:20 p.m,. Among those who lost their life was a Ventura County sheriff’s sergeant and the gunman, authorities said Thursday morning.

During the shooting, around 200 people were reportedly inside the Borderline Bar and Grill. The website for Borderline shows Wednesday nights as College Country Nights that last from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m.


No motive is known behind the cause of the attack. Officials confirm the suspect was found dead inside. An injured man told  KTLA: “We just dropped to the ground, we heard a lot of screaming. My friend is the DJ so she cut off the music, we just heard a lot of mayhem.

Ventura County Sherriff Geoff Dean said the scene inside the bar was “horrific” and there was “blood everywhere”.

Sheriff Sergeant Ron Helus tried to enter the active scene with a local highway patrolman when he was shot several times and later died in the hospital. “It saddens us all and tears at our emotions. He died a hero. He went in to save lives, to save other people,” said Sherriff Dean.


According to ABC News, the shooters gun, which appears to be a .45-caliber handgun, was purchased legally. President Donald Trump tweeted that he has been “fully briefed on the terrible shooting” and he gave great praise to the law enforcement.


Police believe the shooter took his own life inside the bar but have yet to confirm this.
