Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, who got engaged over the summer, kept quiet about the exciting news until after both of their families united in Mumbai for a traditional Roka ceremony. A Roka ceremony is “basically a confirmation from both sides of the family that they approve of the engagement and then there’s some beautiful prayers and connection just for the family to have a chance to meet and hang out and get to know each other,” described Jonas.
After keeping things on the down low, Jonas is now ready to get married and settle down. On Friday night, Jonas told Jimmy Fallon on the “Tonight Show” that his and Chopra’s relationship was really casual, only talking through the phone for six months before meeting up.
“We met through a friend, so we got connected first over text and we started talking for a while and it was about six months before we met up in person. now cut to we’re engaged, the story wrote itself” he told Fallon.
“We met up again, I think 5 months ago now and it was kind of immediate and we sort of jumped right in and we’re very happy,” he went on to say.
Jonas described the meeting of the family to be “really incredible,” both him and his Chopra left the “ceremony full of joy.” “A little different from Jersey,” he jokingly agreed with Fallon.
Jonas confessed after the ceremony and all the engagement still did not seem as official as when the two made it official on Instagram. “Its funny we had this beautiful ceremony we felt so connected, our families all met, it was spiritual and then we put it on Instagram and we were like, ‘It’s official!’”
