Nicki Minaj took to Twitter on Thursday to make a very surprising announcement. The rapper said she is retiring from rap music to start a family.
The 36-year-old MC is engaged to childhood boyfriend Kenneth Petty, and she recently revealed that a wedding is is happening in the coming months.
“I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” tweeted the rapper. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, X in the box – cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.”

In June Minaj released a single entitled “Megatron.” Last month she appeared in Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Hot Girl Summer.” Fans are hoping that Minaj’s retirement is only temporary.
