Selena Gomez went live on Instagram to thank fans and remind them to “be kind” following the release of her two new songs “Look at Her Now” and “Lose You to Love Me.” On Wednesday, the singer took to her social to answer questions and chat with her fans about her music. Before she continued with her Q&A, she seemingly responded to the backlash Hailey Baldwin has received over supposedly throwing shade at her.
“I am grateful for the response that the song is getting. I’m so grateful,” Selena said. “However, I do not stand for women tearing women down. And I will never, ever be by that. So please be kind to everyone.”
She went on to say that bashing women doesn’t reflect her. “It doesn’t matter what the situation is. If [you’re] my fans, don’t be rude to anybody, please. Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment,” she added. “Please, for me, know that that’s not my heart. And my heart is only to release things that I feel that are me and that I’m proud of. And that’s all that I’ll say.”
Selena’s reaction comes shortly after fans noticed that both of her new songs are about Justin Bieber, whom she was in an on and off relationship with from 2010 to 2018. Two months after their last breakup, Justin began dating Hailey and the two quickly got married. Fans accused Hailey of slamming Selena after she posted a screenshot of the song “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker to her Instagram Story, the same Selena released her new music. The model responded to the accusations against her with a since-deleted comment on Just Jared‘s Instagram page.
“Please stop with this nonsense… there is no ‘response,’” Baldwin wrote, according to Just Jared. “This is complete BS.”
