Many people aren’t aware Steve Kerr nearly became the Knicks head coach five years ago, instead he decided to go to the Golden State Warriors and help develop the young talent of Steph Curry & Klay Thompson.
The Knicks recently fired their head coach and it’s sparked a lot of conversation on if Kerr feels it was a good idea.
“I’m actually really enjoying this season.” said Kerr. The team he once saw win multiple championships is without it’s primary stars. Although this may be true the Warriors are still title favorites in the near future, they’ve done a lot of the hardest part in finding a good coach & star players.
“And that may sound strange.” said coach Kerr. The situation has certainly changed though it doesn’t change the way he’s viewing his team instead he’s enjoying improving the young talent the Warriors have at the moment.
“I don’t know where the decision was made to fire coach Fizdale, but if it came from the top, it’s a case of mistaken identity,” coach Popovich said to a numerous amount of reporters. “He’s a fine, talented young coach with a great pedigree and it’s ridiculous to think you’re gonna bring in a young guy and after being there a minute-and-a-half, you expect him to fix everything that’s been wrong there for a long time. That’s petty unfair. It’s an old analogy. He got thrown under the bus. He’ll come out of it because he’s a great coach.”
5 years from today Kerr decided it was best to rejected a verbal agreement that would of made him head coach of the Knicks at the time the president was Phil Jackson. He decided in favor of Golden State.
“If I had gone to New York that would have been me like three years ago,”
“I’m well aware of that. So I think I made the right choice.”
The Warriors aren’t as competitive as they once were but, the Knicks possibly felt they weren’t going to win this year or in the near future like the Warriors. This most likely factored into their decision to reconstruct their team.
